| Jim Hixson
Jim Hixson has been drawing all his life. As a professional carpenter, he has also been working with wood for many years. But he only began carving wood into art six years ago.
His love of the great outdoors is reflected in his choice of subjects - he calls himself a “critter carver”. Jim enjoys duplicating the intricate textures and striking colors of the wildlife in our area, and he exhibits extraordinary skill in capturing the grace of their movements. His work is so realistic that people often assume he is actually a taxidermist rather than a sculptor. He keeps blank, unpainted examples of his work on hand to convince the skeptics.
Despite spending so much of his time working with wood, Jim says he never gets tired of carving. And with nature as his favorite inspiration, he will never run out of models or ideas either.
